CAPACITY BUILDING CENTRE FOR SHG
Yuvasakthi made its maiden venture during 2002 in formation of women Self Help Groups in these islands because we have realized the fact that SHGs shall be the back bone in the process of Women Empowerment. It may be pertinent to mention here that existence of parallel socio-economic and cultural status of families in a particular locality/area is the only viable condition for forming Self Help Groups, which is easily achieved at Mainland but here the strategy restricts the trade and other activities in these islands for few months i.e. during fair weather season. However by our best and continuous efforts we have achieved formation of 500 SHGs amongst these multi-lingual, multi religious/cultural peoples of these islands. Tsunami also played its role in dislocating/shifting of SHG members thereby causing threat for abolition of SHGs but we took extensive initiative and pain to re-gather such members and to re-establish the SHGs in its form prior to Tsunami. Yuvasakthi is the first NGO in these islands which is not exploited the guidance, assistance rendered by NABARD in formation of SHGs.
